The University of Regensburg is an innovative and interdisciplinary campus university with over 20.000 students. The university’s research is highly recognised and a wide range of degrees is offered for students from Germany and abroad. The Department of Interdisciplinary and Multiscalar Area Studies (DIMAS) aims to strengthen and expand Area Studies in research and teaching. It consists of six permanent professorships as well as other members of the participating faculties, researchers and supporting staff. The thematic focus of the professorships lie in the areal dimensions of cultural processes, the sociological dimensions of space, the dynamics of virtual communication spaces, transregional knowledge cultures, transregional norm development in public law and transregional history of religion.
The fixed-term employment is for the successful candidates’ scientific qualification (Habilitation) with a contract term of 3 years, with the possibility of extension by 2 further years (paragraph 2 para. 1 WissZeitVG). The post-holders will be compensated according to TV-L E 13.
Responsibilities
- Independent research in the field of Area Studies with the aim of a Habilitation or a work equivalent to the Habilitation, ideally with at least one of the thematic focuses mentioned above
- Independent and collaborative publication activities and presentation of research results at relevant national and international conferences
- Participation in the acquisition of third-party funding projects and in the coordination of the research activities of the DIMAS professorships
- Conception and implementation of courses including student supervision in the scope of 5 SWS (5 hours per week during the semester)
Requirements
- Completed academic university studies as well as a qualified doctorate in the field of history, social sciences, cultural studies, media studies, literary studies, area and/or regional studies.
- Profound knowledge of area studies/regional studies and their methods, or the willingness to acquire them quickly, as well as enthusiasm for new methods and the ability to familiarize oneself independently and quickly with new qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
- Confident oral and written expression in German and English
- Ability to work in a team and outstanding critical faculties, as well as the willingness to conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research and to publish and present papers
- Independence and organizational talent as well as the ability to plan, implement and complete projects in a goal-oriented and speedy manner
